The correct OEM spark plug for your car is super important. But what most people do not understand, installing it correctly is just as important to prevent damage both to your engine and your spark plug.
1. Get Correct OEM Spark Plug
Either by searching on the online databases, checking your vehicles owners manual or by getting your local parts dealer to check for you, find the correct OEM spark plug that your car uses, and get a new one.
2. Remove Old Spark Plug
Using the correct spark plug socket with the rubber spark plug protection in place, remove the old spark plug from the engine.
3. Install New Spark Plug
Confirm that the thread reach of the spark plug is the correct one for your engine. Insert the new spark plug with your hand, and tighten the spark plug finger-tight until the gasket or washer reaches the cylinder head. The tighten the spark plug a further 1/2 to 2/3 turn with a spark plug wrench or socket.
You are done.
What most people do not realize, is that there is a Heat Expansion washer or gasket on the spark plug, that is not supposed to be crushed. By crushing it you are aiming for ceramic cranking resulting in a misfiring engine or cylinder.
